Marijuana is a psychoactive drug that consists of a green and brown mixture of dried leaves, buds, and stems from the Cannabis Sativa Plant. It is typically smoked as a cigarette (joint) or in a pipe. It can also smoked through a water pipe called a “bong” and through hollowed out cigars called “blunts.”
This substance can be ingested when mixed with food; common are brownies, cookies, and cake. Modern technology provides another method of use through vaporizers known as E-cigarettes. The active chemical intoxicant in marijuana is delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly known as THC. The potency of marijuana is related to the amount of THC it contains. Reports indicate that THC content has increased over the past 40 years and that current strains may contain more than 20 percent THC.
